I love to read to read gossip about footballers and WAGs. I enjoy reading about scandals from behind the scenes. I also loved to follow how Will and Kate met up, broke up and re-united…but where did I read this all: the Guardian, the Independent or the BBC? Nope….The News of the World and The Sun….
A couple of weeks ago if you told me, that Murdoch may not be able to buy BskyB, I would not have believed it. He holds a big part of the media in the UK and if he does not like you, then you are likely to be the next poor Brown. But the phone hacking scandal changed everything. I was so angry and furious about what The News of the World had done, it was totally immoral, the most vicious news I ever read. If Brooks had a daughter would that have made her more sympathetic to the harm done by the hacking and deleting of the phone messages of Millie Dowler? Would she have worried about her child everytime they left home? Hacking and deleting messages just for more news. This scandal made Brooks and Murdoch and News International become public enemies.
UK’s Tabloid on the 1801 chart
If we look at the UK’s 1801 chart you will see the 3rd house cusps in Sagittarius, indicating an urgency to extend our communication and looking for more information. This also suggests the English language’s huge influence, becoming an international language. 3rd house also rules News and BBC news is the biggest broadcaster in the world. The 3rd house ruler, Jupiter, sextile Uranus and qcx Pluto in 5th, reflects that famous British tabloid journalism, as it emphasises features such as sensational crime stories, gossip, tendency to deliberately shock readers (or society).
Mercury, detriment in Sagittarius, in the 3rd House, rules the 9th House, which also has influence on News and Media, Ssq Jupiter (3rd and 6th House ruler) and Ssx Neptune (fantasy and victim and 6th house ruler). Mercury is also qcx the Moon which is MC ruler representing Leader of a country, government, and celebrities.
Chiron, linked to wounding or harm, was right on the 3rd house cusps. It squarea Pluto, this also could suggest that communication, transport, and media are sensitive areas in the UK. For example, even the public are angry with The News of the World scandal but British society is still very sensitive about whether new regulation of the Media is going to affect its proper function (fourth estate).
In another way, the UK has Venus and Pluto in the 5th House, Pluto from the Yod with Jupiter and Uranus and is the apex of Yod. This suggests in one way that British people believe (Ju) muckraking (Pl) could change the whole country secretly (Ur in 12th conj Asc) with an uncomfortable stimulation (quincunx, yod). In another way shocking news (Ur), cruel criminal news (PL), scandal (PL) of celebrities (Jupiter in Leo) becomes a form of entertainment.
If the suggestions in the 1801 chart are correct then we all play a part in this chart. We enjoy being cruel and gossiping and the tabloid journalists satisfy this need, but could we say, as The News of the World editor said “this is not where we wanted to be, and it’s not where we deserve to be.”
If it is not where the British public deserve to be, then we have to find someone to take the blame. As Rupert Murdoch holds the News International group and owns a big part of the British Newspaper industry, and Mrs Brooks is the CEO of New International group, then they have responsibility for this.
The synastry between UK1801 and Rupert Murdoch is very interesting, his Exaltation Jupiter in Cancer conjunct UK’s MC, tells us how he enjoys being an important role in our government. His Sun and MC ruler Mercury form a Water grand trine with UK’s Moon and Neptune which suggest how his business satisfies our need for gossip and fantasy.
His Pluto conjunct UK’s Moon, The Moon in Mundane represents the people and in the UK’s chart it is also ruler of 10th, which means his invisible hand can really MANIPULATE our people and our government. We heard about how UK politicians have to earn his favour to win the elections. However his Jupiter is opposite UK’s Sun. UK’s sun rules the parliament (11th House) so I doubt he would really be welcome in the House of Commons. His Sun and Mercury (MC ruler) and MC all square UK’s Mercury in 3rd. How we envy (or are angry about) his media empire. His Saturn square UK’s Moon and his Neptune opposite UK’s Pluto, suggest how we see him as an unpopular person who holds power and has the potential to threaten us.
It is very easy to project our detriment Mercury as a collective shadow to someone who also has detriment Mercury, and has Pluto conjunct our Moon. I do not mean he is innocent and we project our shadow on him but just to show you it is interesting how a country‘s collective shadow can project on someone if the two chart have strong inter-aspects.
This year Mr Murdoch also has his SP Mercury conjunct his natal Chiron and his Uranus conjunct Dsc on his Solar Arc chart which suggests a huge change in his life. This happens when Transit Pluto Saturn Uranus form a Grand Cross with his Natal Jupiter (the Exaltation planet and dispositor of Mercury also right on 1801’s MC) and on the day of News revealed Phone-hacking scandal the sun was on his Jupiter trigger this grand cross.
But what about Rebekah Brooks? I don’t have her birth-time, so let do this more carefully. Her Sun is opposite UK’s Chiron and square UK’s Pluto and her Mars is opposite UK’s Mercury. She has Tr Pl Ur square her Chiron, and soon she will has Tr Saturn opposite Natal Saturn, which will not be an easy time.
Finally as New Solar fire has upgraded the solar map and this is my favourite bit of astrology, I look at Mr. Murdoch’s ACG Chart, well well well, Local space lines of Venus, Pluto, Saturn and Mars all cross the UK, as do the Node Mc and Ur Mc lines.
Great article Rod. It's interesting that Murdoch's Pluto line runs so close to London, with London being the UK's seat of power and Murdoch's obvious influence on that.
